This
book addresses the various aspects of nowadays computational support
systems for learners. And in particular those learning aspects that rely
heavily upon one’s imagination of knowledge and “new” ideas. It undertakes
the
question how learners may become more effective learners while using
the
highly graphical computer systems that now conquer almost every desk.
Design
as a conceptual process is still underestimated in demand for
creativity and final impact. Computers are well-accepted in for example
planning and calculating. However seeing the current spectrum of CADD
(Computer
Aided Drafting and Design) software it is obvious that we are
prudent to accept the computer in the ideational stage of design. This
presents both existing and future conceptual techniques. Its evolution is
accelerated by but not limited to interactive computer tools. One of the
reasons learning practices did not yet embrace them is its impact on the
main
convention underlying learning and schooling. “Schooling Institutes”
promote the learning of its the learners but at the same time prevent
themselves from learning as it would weaken their status by changing their
methods. Society gave them the task to select its more resilient members.
Concerning
the notion that learning is only real learning as it allows its
main
actors
to change themselves, it is hard to imagine that cognitive tools will be
accepted in the midst of its
institutional survival attempt.
